Lent Day 14 | 40 to Life
The Lenten reflection of Dale Bateman on the 14th day of Lent, 2022
Luke 16:19
Jesus said: “ There was a rich man who dressed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who longed to satisfy his hunger with what fell from the rich man’s table…”
Now that I am retired, I read the newspaper and watch the news every day. I find that I tend to focus on current crisis which seems to be ever changing and demands my attention. I get caught up in the daily chores and obligations that take up much of my time and thoughts. At the same time I know that there are people who live their daily lives just trying to put food on the table. Their unfulfilled needs are much greater than my own and just as important.
In the bible passage today, Jesus reminds us that we have an obligation to help others who are in need. He goes on to say that our lives will be judged by how we fulfill that obligation. So, each day I have tried to turn off the daily distractions and focus on how I can better meet the needs of others. Our church has a full schedule of Lenten Outreach Programs that can be viewed on our website.
Thank you and have a great Lenten season!
